Omega-3 Beats pain in the Neck!

One of the most exciting developments of the last few years is the growing acceptance of Omega-3 fatty acid supplements. Doctors are suggesting it for cardiovascular health and improved cholesterol, but there are many additional benefits that we are just starting to discover. Read below for an encouraging report on pain relief using essential fatty acids.

In a new study from the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 120 adult patients with non-surgical neck or back pain took 1200 mg of Omega-3 fatty acids per day, consisting of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) for an average of 75 days.

At the end of the study, 60% of the participants reported less overall pain and less joint pain, and 59% discontinued taking prescription medication or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) including Bextra, Motrin and Vioxx. In addition, 80% of participants said they were satisfied with the improvement from the omega-3 supplement and 88% said that they would continue to use omega-3 in their daily regime.
