Another Quick Tip: Magnesium Helps you remember!
Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology recently discovered that synapses the chemical and electrical connections between brain cells operate much like music speakers: the less interference from background noise, the more clearly the synapse is able to transmit its signal from one brain cell to another. The scientists say that healthy synapses have plasticity the ability to change and that this is the key to learning and memory. Researchers also know that synapses are less plastic in the aging or diseased brain, and that this lack of plasticity causes the forgetfulness common in the elderly.
The scientists found that as concentrations of magnesium increased, the background noise in the synapses decreased, leading to the largest improvements in plasticity ever reported in scientific literature. The researchers believe that most Americans do not consume enough magnesium and that this deficiency may be a factor in declining mental function. The typical dosage range for magnesium is 400 mg to 1000 mg per day.
GreenAcres Market has excellent magnesium supplements, especially a powdered magnesium called Natural Calm. Come into our store and let us help you choose a magnesium supplement.
