Founded in 1994, GreenAcres Market set out to make Wichita, Kansas a healthier place to be. Our first store opened at 21st and Rock Road in Bradley Fair, and it’s been a launching point for ideas ever since.
Back then, health food stores were rare.
The community needed better options, so we built one. Through research, education, and a carefully chosen selection, we’ve been growing that mission ever since, one knowledgeable conversation at a time.

A Woman-Led, Family-Built Business
GreenAcres began with one determined woman and a simple belief: that better nutrition could change lives.
After her own health journey revealed the power of clean food, founder Barb Hoffmann turned that mission into a business. In spring 1994, Barb and her husband John opened the first GreenAcres Market at Bradley Fair in Wichita.
That single store grew into a woman-led, family-owned natural foods market across Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma, with daughter Shannon carrying the vision forward.
A New Chapter, the Same Mission
In July 2024, after 30 years of building GreenAcres into a Midwestern institution, the Hoffmann family passed the torch , joining a new family!
Barb called the decision “bittersweet,” and made sure the things that mattered most carried forward: the team, the community, and the mission to help people live healthier lives. That mission is still the heartbeat of every GreenAcres store today.
